There are 38 different remedies in the Bach flower system. All of these were discovered by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1920's and 1930's. Each remedy is associated with a basic human emotion. The remedy works by helping us to deal with and dissolve an emotion that is holding us back on some level, so that we can move on and begin to heal our lives.

It is important to find the correct remedy or combination of remedies for each individual. Mimulus, for example, is the remedy for when we are anxious or afraid about something specific, whereas Aspen is taken if the person has vague, unknown fears. Most people find they achieve good results initially working with a combination of around 3 flower remedies.

The best known of the Bach remedies is Rescue Remedy, which is a combination of 5 different remedies working together to calm the person in cases of stress, trauma, accident or emergency. It is also widely-used by students before an exam or even before a job interview. The 5 different remedies in Rescue Remedy are:

  1. Star of Bethlehem - for Trauma and Numbness
  2. Rock Rose - Terror and Panic
  3. Impatiens - Irritability and Tension
  4. Cherry Plum - Fear of Losing Control
  5. Clematis - Tendency to Pass out or Faint

Dr. Bach believed that healing on an emotional level has effects on other levels of the self: a healthy emotional life and a balanced personality will allow your body to find its natural state of health.
